Soft-Hiking at Sunset

Runner up in Your Say, the Telegraph Travel’s weekly competition.

There’s nothing like a ‘soft-hike’ along the western path of the Pointe des Sanguinaires loop to really see the beauty of Corsica. Safe in the shade of the shrub-lined path, my family and I ventured into the mountains, despite the sweltering heat and our Irish skin!

Though hesitant about walking up a mountain, we were grateful that the route’s inclines were gradual, allowing us all to take in the fresh sea air. That’s right, mountains, shrubbery and a sea-view too, this walk had it all! Shrubbery behind us and ocean ahead, we realised how high up we’d travelled as we witnessed the sea crashing and swirling with might against the rocks far below.

The best bit? If you time this walk just right, you’ll catch a Corsican sunset on the final stretch of the path towards Corsica’s La Parata lookout. Energised by the walk, refreshed by the sea breeze and invigorated by the beauty of the sunset, what more could you want?
